A History of SYRAPEX

SYRAPEX is the name of a biennial stamp exhibition and bourse (sale) sponsored by the Syracuse Stamp Club.  The name, a contraction for SYRAcuse Philatelic EXhibition, was first applied to a show held at the Syracuse Masonic Temple on October 10 & 11, 1959.  Another show, held at the same location the following year, was also called SYRAPEX.

The name fell into disuse after 1960, although the club remained heavily involved in shows sponsored by the Federation of Central New York Philatelic Societies.  In 1979, SYRAPEX was revived as a quadrennial show; since 1987 it has been held biennially. 

This page was compiled in 2005-'06 by SSC vice president and webmaster Daniel Piazza.  It contains historical information and photos of every show that has been called SYRAPEX.  About the earlier shows  particularly 1960  very little is known.  If you can contribute memories, memorabilia, or photos of these shows, please send an E-mail to the Webmaster.
