The artwork for our SYRAPEX 2003 cachet is a fanciful depiction of a celebration honoring the Wright Brothers' first powered flight of 1903.  It is several years after the historic event, and the crowd marvels at the soaring plane as it flies high above the landscape.

Orville and Wilbur Wright were men of vision, hope, and optimism.  They dreamed, studied, and endeavored.  When they failed, they regrouped and tried again.  In their eventual success, they made the impossible happen.  Mankind's ability to take to the skies has bridged the distance between people throughout the world, making us realize our connectedness to others.  We celebrate them for these reasons and for the triumph of two ordinary men who accomplished an extraordinary feat.

The cachet for the cover was drawn by professional artist Alex Carroll of Alex Silk Designs, Marcellus, New York, and the cancellation was composed by Donna M. Davis, who owns and operates The Village Scribe of Camillus, New York.  The stamp we have used for our cover is the USPS 2003 Wright Brothers' First Flight Centennial issue.
